Lime Wash / Lime Paint
Authentic Mineral Finish • Colorado & the Front Range

Lime Wash (also called Lime Paint) is an authentic, breathable mineral finish made from slaked lime putty. It creates soft, textured, matte walls with a beautiful, natural depth that changes subtly with light.

Because it is highly dilutable and tintable, Lime Wash can achieve many different effects — from a classic cloudy, weathered look to smooth, elegant finishes. It can be applied directly over plaster or used with various techniques and consistencies to create unique textures and appearances while maintaining its natural mineral properties.

Lime Wash is prized for being highly breathable, naturally antimicrobial, and eco-friendly. It helps regulate indoor humidity and is an excellent choice for historic homes, modern interiors, and anyone wanting a healthy, non-toxic finish.

Jake at iconic did the walls and fireplace at my shop and it looks amazing. He put 24k gold leaf veining on the side walls, a matte finish on the fireplace, he did it quick and the price was right. 10/10 would definitely recommend and would 100% get more work done by him! Everybody who sees the walls loves his work!

We had Jake and his crew do a beautiful venetian plaster in our bathroom that really came out amazing! These guys were so respectful of our home and seemed to be super efficient with how fast they worked to get us our home back. We just wish we could do this all over our house now!

I am so impressed with Iconic Wall Finishing! I have been trying for months to have someone finish my fireplace in Venetian Plaster. Jake was extremely responsive and professional. He responded to my initial estimate request within an hour and it was a Sunday night. Not only did he show up on the date promised, he arrived at the exact minute he said he’d be there! My fireplace looks absolutely gorgeous, exceeding my expectations. To top it off, I feel his pricing was not only fair but it was below what I expected to pay. I would recommend this company to anyone without hesitation. Thanks again!!

Questions

What is Lime Wash?

Lime Wash is a traditional, breathable finish made from authentic slaked lime putty. It creates soft, matte, textured walls with a natural, mineral appearance that ages beautifully over time.

What is the difference between Lime Wash and regular paint?

Lime wash is a breathable, mineral-based finish made from slaked lime. It creates a soft, textured, matte look with natural variation. Regular paint is usually acrylic or latex-based and creates a more uniform, non-breathable film. Lime wash is more eco-friendly and helps regulate humidity.

Is Lime Wash durable?

Lime wash is quite durable when properly applied and sealed. It holds up well to Colorado’s dry climate but may need occasional touch-ups in high-traffic areas. With a good sealer, it can last 10–15+ years.

Is Lime Wash safe and eco-friendly?

Yes. It is made from natural lime, is non-toxic, odorless, and free of harmful VOCs. It is safe for families, pets, and sensitive individuals.

Can Lime Wash be applied over existing paint or drywall?

Yes. It can be applied over properly prepared painted walls, drywall, or existing plaster. A good primer or base coat is often recommended for the best results.

Can Lime Wash be used in bathrooms?

Yes — lime wash works well in bathrooms on accent walls or low-moisture areas. For high-moisture zones like showers, we recommend using Microcement/Tadelakt instead.

How do you maintain Lime Wash walls?

Lime wash is low-maintenance. Dust regularly and spot-clean with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals. Reapply a protective sealer every few years in high-traffic areas to maintain appearance.
