Tadelakt and Microcement are both AMAZING plasters meant for wet use areas and can be continued elsewhere in dry areas to continue the stunning seamless look. Microcement can even be an awesome alternative to flooring anywhere including commercial businesses and residential homes.
It's not only a gorgeous finish but there's endless possibilities of colors and textures while achieving a seamless shower without all those annoying grout lines.
Not only is it aesthetically appealing but it's extremely durable, abrasion resistant, crack resistant, and super easy to maintain.
Microcement
Microcement is the most versatile with many sheen options ranging from Matte, Satin, or Gloss. It also has many more options for being able to achieve textures you wouldn't be able to achieve with Tadelakt. Also, much more suitable for floor applications. You can even go over tile with this option although not recommended. This is a 4 coat plaster with a 2 coat epoxy sealer. This is known as a forever finish as the plaster itself has an epoxy mixture in it and then it is sealed with an epoxy coating as well so other than keeping your shower clean, no annual maintenance.
Microcement can have a variety of textures including a smooth surface, a sandier grippy surface, or even heavy textures like a skip trowel. It also has the versatility to be able to be any color and can be as intricate as replicating stone veining as well.
Microcement is also an awesome alternative to a flooring choice. Microcement floors are extremely durable, no grout lines to clean up, and have a beautiful aesthetic.
Tadelakt
Tadelakt is going to give you a similar aesthetic but with a polished gloss surface being really the only option for the finish. Tadelakt is 6 coats of plaster, an olive oil soap sealer, and a beeswax sealer as well. Almost like the eco-friendly sibling of microcement. This finish is recommended to be waxed annually for maintenance on the glossy sheen.
Both finishes can also be done in non-wet use areas without all the waterproofing to give you the option to cover all surfaces in the room without as costly of a process.

What is the difference between Microcement and Tadelakt?
Microcement is a modern, highly versatile cement-based plaster that offers multiple sheen levels (matte, satin, or gloss) and a wide range of textures. Tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan lime-based plaster that creates a beautiful polished glossy finish only and is sealed with natural olive oil soap and beeswax.
Are Microcement and Tadelakt waterproof?
Yes. Both finishes are fully waterproof and ideal for showers, steam rooms, and wet areas. Microcement is especially robust thanks to its epoxy-integrated formula and 2-coat epoxy sealer.
Can Microcement be used on floors?
Absolutely. Microcement is an excellent seamless flooring solution for both residential homes and commercial spaces. It’s highly durable, abrasion-resistant, and creates a stunning grout-free surface.
How long does Microcement last?
Microcement is considered a “forever finish.” When properly installed, it can last 20+ years or more with virtually no maintenance beyond regular cleaning.
Does Tadelakt require maintenance?
Yes. To keep its glossy sheen and water resistance, Tadelakt should be re-waxed with beeswax once per year.
Can these finishes be applied over existing tile?
Microcement can be applied over tile with proper preparation, though we generally recommend removing the tile for the best long-term results. Tadelakt is not recommended over existing tile.
What colors and textures are available?
Virtually unlimited. You can choose any color, including custom matches and stone veining. Textures range from ultra-smooth to sandy, skip-trowel, and heavy artistic finishes.
How long does a typical Microcement or Tadelakt project take?
Most bathroom showers or accent wall projects take 2–4 days depending on size and complexity. We work efficiently while carefully protecting your home.
