You may have seen it in the pages of your favorite design magazines or on Instagram as one of those trendy walls you just have to get a picture in front of.
It is the process adding a veneer limestone and marble coating to your walls with the use of Italian Plasters.
It can give an incredible sense of depth to any environment while also turning your wall to an art piece.
Imported all the way from Italy, venetian plaster is a luxurious wall finish made of lime plaster and marble dust. The lime plaster is made from the mixture of fired/slaked limestone and an addition of dolomite marble dust. When applied to your walls/ceilings, it can leave almost any smooth surface with an amazing marble/stone appearance with an endless amount of ways to bring your ideas to life on your walls.
It can be done with many different textures and sheens ranging from a matte appearance all the way to intricate marbling with a high gloss waxed and polished finish.
There are plasters that aren't categorized as Venetian Plasters as well but can give similar appearances while having the durability to be able to create seamless shower systems such as Microcement & Tadelakt.

We had a few holes before moving out that we needed patched - the quality of the finish on the walls was so good you couldn't even tell it had been repaired! Super responsive, respectful, and professional. They truly care about their work, money well spent! -Jacob
They turned our wall into a masterpiece! It was awesome watching Jake and his crew transform our wall. It was an ugly knockdown texture and they were able to get it smooth and give us a really cool venetian plaster accent wall. It completely made our living room a much more vibrant space.
Venetian plaster is a luxurious decorative wall finish made from slaked lime putty and finely ground marble dust (sometimes with natural pigments). When applied in multiple thin layers and burnished, it creates a smooth, polished surface with incredible depth, translucency, and a marble-like appearance.
Traditional lime-based Venetian plaster is not naturally waterproof. It can be used in bathrooms on accent walls or dry areas, but for showers and high-moisture zones, it needs a proper sealer/wax or a waterproof topcoat. (Microcement or Tadelakt are better true waterproof options.)
When properly applied, Venetian plaster is very durable and can last 20+ years. It is more flexible than regular plaster and resists shrinking/cracking better than many finishes. Minor damage can often be touched up seamlessly. Like any wall finish, it performs best on stable, well-prepared surfaces.
It is very low-maintenance. Dust or wipe with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. For polished finishes, occasional re-waxing (every 2–5 years) helps maintain the shine and adds protection. Avoid harsh chemicals.
Yes — it can be applied directly over properly prepared drywall, existing smooth plaster, or painted walls (as long as the surface is sound, clean, and primed if needed). Multiple thin coats are key to achieving the best results.
Venetian plaster typically costs $8–$18 per square foot installed, depending on the type, number of layers, and complexity of the project. Contact us for a free quote.
The main types include Grassello (high-gloss), Marmorino (matte to medium sheen), and Veneziano. Each offers different textures and finishes to suit your design vision.
